Vubwi District is largely dependent on subsistence agriculture with maize and soya beans being the primary crops used. Until its declaration as a new district in 2012, Vubwi had no health services, electricity, and little infrastructure development. As a result, the district has remained underdeveloped with few opportunities for the youth. It is in Mlawe Ward of Vubwi District that the OurPitch project itself was born on the dust-covered bumpy track back from the opening ceremony of the Umodzi Epicentre.

OurPitch, in collaboration with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), trained 35 coaches from underprivileged communities from Mlawe & Vubwi wards. These intensive training sessions, led by professional coaches, focused on mentoring participants in the foundational principles of football coaching. By equipping these coaches with the knowledge and expertise needed to nurture young athletes, we are building a sustainable future for football in Eastern Zambia.
