Mongu District is the provincial administrative and service hub for surrounding rural areas in the Western Province with a population of 197,816. It is located roughly 585 km west of Lusaka and was established as a rural council in 1964. The primary economic activities in Mongu are a combination of smallholder farming, fishing, and informal trading with households in the district being largely dependent on the seasonal cycles of the floodplain which they inhabit.
Between the 27th of August and 1st of September 2025, OurPitch, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, hosted a FAZ-E License training course for local school teachers and coaches. The program attracted one hundred and thirty-six (136) male and forty (40) female participants from across the district with 90%+ being from local schools. As a result of this training, remote districts such as Lukulu, Luampa and Shang’ombo now, for the first time, have access to professionally certified football coaches.
