Mafinga District, which lies 1134km from Lusaka in the northeast of Zambia, is one of the most remote districts in the country (the town of Muyombe, in particular, is the furthest town from Lusaka that OurPitch has engaged in its efforts) and shares a border with Malawi. It is the administrative centre of Muchinga Province and, having been created in 2011 to centralise development efforts, was named after the Mafinga Hills. Due to the elevation and rough topography of the Mafinga hills, accessibility into the district is extremely poor and this has significantly hindered development efforts. The primary economic activity of the district is small-scale farming of maize, sweet potatoes, and cassava. Furthermore, there are no industries in the district that are significant enough to sustain economic activity amongst local youth.
Between the 8th and 12th of December 2025, OurPitch, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, hosted a FAZ-E License training course for local school teachers and coaches. The course was the first ever official coach-training initiative in the district and it attracted a total of eighty-eight male (88) and twelve female participants (12) from across the district.
