Petauke District shares a district boundary with Nyimba in the west, Lusangazi in the north, Sind in the east and an international border with Mozambique in the south west and as of 2022, the district had a total population of 251,771. The main economic activity in Petauke, like many of the other districts, is agriculture focusing on crop (maize, soya) and livestock. The district has a number of teams in the FAZ League but it has struggled to establish its own division. However, the district has a very strong amateur base of support for football that thrives in community-sponsored tournaments. Owing to the geographical position of Petauke as a crossroad between multiple districts and the existing support for football in the district, OurPitch selected it for participation in its programmes. 

Between the 6th and 10th of May 2025, OurPitch, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, hosted a FAZ-E License training course for local school teachers and coaches. The program attracted seventy-four (74) male and twenty (20) female participants from across the district with over 75% being from local schools.
